Come snow, sleet, thunderstorms or blazing heat — and those can all happen on the same day — the Going To The Sun Rally (GTTSR) thunders on. Starting in Bozeman, the route varies each year, in 2009 heading into Yellowstone and in 2010, down to Jackson Hole and Sun Valley and over the headwaters of The River of No Return, to Missoula, the Crazy Mountains and back to Bozeman.

The one thing that makes this rally unusual is the staggering scenery, mile after mile. Some rallies have rare scenery but on the GTTSR, the scenery never stops. The hills are alive with antelope and deer and both years, we came around a corner to confront a bear. A grizzly in Yellowstone, which was not a great surprise but near Missoula, an adolescent black bear sitting by a country road, just watching the cars go by. Well, Bentley Specials are worth a look.

The Two Boars have driven the XK150s (2009) and the Bentley Special (2010). It’s an eclectic mix of cars and drivers. Bentleys are rare but not as rare as the Carrera veteran Henry J driven by Dennis Birkhimer. And, having seen this bright yellow beauty, one can guess why.
